ENVIRONMENT
AND RELIGION
Early
in 2003, Niagara Heritage Partnership sent out 57 letters to Niagara
Frontier religious leaders asking that they consider supporting our
proposal for gorge rim restoration. A copy is posted here: Letter to Religious Leaders.
We included a copy of the remarks by the Reverend Charles Lamb,
entitled "Environment and religion." Other than the response from Reverend Lamb (you can read his
comment at
#1587
of the online
petition), we
received but one other reply. In March we wrote to the "God
Squad," Monsignor Tom Hartman and Rabbi Marc Gellman, asking why
religious leaders remain silent, or are sometimes reluctant to speak out
on issues involving the larger community. Though we included a
self-addressed stamped envelope for a reply, and they state in their
newspaper column that they are happy to try to answer. . . religious,
personal, or ethical questions," we received no response.
Sometimes no answer is an answer. Do you think this is one of those
times?
We
still look forward to additional support from the religious community.
